Tal como as coisas à nossa volta reagem umas às outras, também isso acontece na sua arte. Um parque de estacionamento, um edifício, uma parede em branco: experienciamos cada coisa no seu contexto.

Na sua arte, as formas nunca estão sozinhas e apesar do seu trabalho ser abstrato, conseguimos entender que, juntas, as formas contam uma história. As formas interligadas em cinzento e branco reagem umas às outras e complementam-se. A sua presença acaba também por transformar a experiência do ambiente imediato de um parque de estacionamento, de um edifício e de uma parede.

Por essa razão, a sua obra não pode ser colocada de qualquer forma em qualquer lugar. Aliás, nas suas obras em espaços públicos, o ambiente envolvente é o ponto de partida. Ela reage-lhe e constrói com base nele.

O significado deste mural reside no “valor acrescentado” a este lugar. Harmonia, quietude e tranquilidade: com este mural ela pretende exatamente transmitir isso, sem palavras, sem “barulho”.

Just as things in the world around us react to each other, so it is in her art. A parking lot, a building, a blank wall: we always experience such things in their context.

In her art, shapes never stand alone and although this work is purely abstract, we see that her forms together tell a ‘story’. The interlocking shapes in grey and white respond to each other, they complement each other. And their presence also changes the experience of the immediate environment of a parking space, a building and a wall.

For that reason, her artwork cannot be placed ‘just like that’ anywhere. Even more: in her works for public space, the environment is the starting point. She responds to that, she build on that. The significance of this mural therefore lies in the ‘added value’ for this place. Harmony, stillness and tranquillity: with this wall painting she wants to convey just that, without words, without ‘noise’.

Riki Mijling

Bio – PT

Nasceu em Nijmegen, Países Baixos, em 1954.

Formou-se na Royal Academy for Art and Design (Den Bosch, 1980).

Vive e trabalha em Amesterdão, Doetinchem (Países Baixos) e Amoreiras – Gare (Portugal).

Mijling criou uma extensa obra de esculturas, desenhos, objetos de parede e murais na tradição holandesa de abstração geométrica e escultura (pós) minimalista

Viajou imenso pela Índia, Nepal, Mali, Burkina Faso e Egito e visitou mosteiros budistas em Ladakh. Ela própria o descreveu como focar-se nas questões: ‘qual é a forma do vazio?’ e ‘pode a geometria visualizar o vazio?’

As suas obras fazem parte de coleções de museus, empresas, coleções privadas nos Países Baixos, Reino Unido, Bélgica, França, Suíça, Portugal, Alemanha, Austrália e Estados Unidos da América.

She was born in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in 1954.

Graduated at the Royal Academy for Art and Design (Den Bosch, 1980).

Riki Mijling lives and works in Amsterdam, Doetinchem (the Netherlands) and Amoreiras – Gare (Portugal).

Mijling has created an extensive oeuvre of sculptures, drawings, wall objects and murals in the Dutch tradition of geometric abstraction and (post) minimalistic sculpture.

She travelled extensively in India, Nepal, Mali, Burkina Faso and Egypt, and visited Buddhist monasteries in Ladakh.

Riki Mijling herself describes it as focusing on the questions; ‘What shape is the void?’ and ‘Can geometry visualize the void?’

Riki Mijling has works in collections of museums, firms and private collections in the Netherlands, Great Brittan, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Germany, Australia and in the United States of America.
